Sunny’s Equity and Diversity in Society Experience

Why did you choose UWTSD?

I chose UWTSD because of its flexible programme and accessibility. As someone employed full-time, it was important for me to find a course with live interactions and lectures, unlike most distance learning degrees, which are mainly online without a live tutor experience. Another reason for choosing UWTSD was the accessibility and overall inclusion of the programme. The degree welcomes individuals from all walks of life, regardless of prior education, making it easier for people from various social backgrounds to access education equally. This inclusivity was an important factor for me, as promoting equity and inclusion is fundamental to our studies.

What did you enjoy outside your studies?

I love spending time with my partner and my family. I also enjoy staying active, being outdoors, and travelling. Although I dedicate a lot of time to my job, I always try to find ways to relax and have some downtime.

What do you hope to do when you graduate?

I hope to continue learning and making a positive impact. I also aim to progress in my career and apply the knowledge and skills gained from my degree in my everyday life and work.

What is your favourite thing about Equity and Diversity in Society?

One of the things I appreciate most about the MA in Equity and Diversity in Society is the wide range of topics and questions we cover in our lectures and assignments. Social environments are incredibly complex, and being able to research and discuss these issues has helped me gain a broader perspective and be more understanding of the challenges faced by specific groups. This experience has been invaluable and has also improved my self-awareness and knowledge of various societal issues and challenges.

What is your favourite thing about the University Campuses?

I’m a distance learning and remote student. I haven’t been to the campuses yet, but I heard it’s beautiful, so I can’t wait to see it this year or the next time I visit.

Did you come to UWTSD using an alternative route?

Yes, I came as a mature student in hopes of retraining to pursue my passion for social justice.
