Dr Lakshani N. Mendis says her journey and academic achievements are a testament to the quality of education and research opportunities available at UWTSD.

Dr Mendis, a London-based professional, chose UWTSD for its reputable business programmes and the chance to collaborate with an experienced business department on innovative research topics.

“I chose UWTSD for its reputable business programmes and the opportunity to study with experienced faculty members on cutting-edge research topics,” says Dr Mendis. With a robust academic and professional background in business administration, Dr Mendis has been a lecturer since 2019 and also manages her own enterprise, Robes in Roses. Her pursuit of a DBA was driven by her passion for business strategy and the transformative impact of emerging technologies, especially artificial intelligence.

Dr Mendis selected the DBA programme at UWTSD for its comprehensive curriculum that blends theoretical insights with practical applications, aligning perfectly with her career aspirations.

“I chose the Doctor of Business Administration at UWTSD because of my passion for business strategy and innovation, particularly in the context of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence,” she explains. Her primary aim was to explore how digital innovations, particularly AI, are revolutionising the banking sector. This academic endeavour was designed to not only enhance her professional credentials but also to contribute meaningful insights to the field of business strategy.

Among the many highlights of her doctoral journey were the engaging modules on strategic change, managing complex environments, and entrepreneurial perspectives. Dr Mendis’ research focused on AI-enabled digital banking systems and their effects on consumer behaviour in the UK. “One of the highlights of the course was the opportunity to engage in in-depth research on a topic I am passionate about,” she notes. Her participation in conferences like the British Academy of Management (BAM) and other doctoral symposia provided her with invaluable academic exposure and enriched her research experience.

Balancing academic and professional responsibilities posed a significant challenge for Dr. Mendis, but she successfully navigated these demands through effective time management and prioritisation. “Balancing my academic responsibilities with my professional commitments was one of the significant challenges I faced during my studies,” she recalls. The pandemic introduced additional hurdles, particularly in data collection, which she overcame by leveraging digital tools and remote collaboration platforms.

Dr Mendis highly recommends the DBA programme at UWTSD for its robust curriculum, supportive environment, and exceptional opportunities for academic growth. “The Doctor of Business Administration programme at UWTSD offers a robust curriculum that combines theoretical knowledge with practical applications,” she says. She credits the course with enhancing her expertise in business management and AI, making her a more competitive candidate for both academic and industry roles.

Looking ahead, Dr Mendis plans to continue her contributions to academia and industry through teaching, research, and consultancy in digital banking and AI. “My immediate plan is to continue contributing to academia and industry through teaching and research,” she shares. She aims to publish her findings in esteemed journals and aspires to assume leadership roles that drive innovation and strategic growth within academic institutions and industry organisations.

Dr Lakshani N. Mendis’ believes her story exemplifies the transformative impact of the educational programmes at UWTSD.
