Luke's BA Fine Art Experience

What was your favourite thing about Swansea campus?
The Studio, the size of the studio’s has really helped me expand my ideas and how I see creating. My work has grown so much since being given the space.
Why did you choose UWTSD?
I chose UWTSD as I was inspired by the passion of the staff when visiting the university. The workshops were also a massive influence as they were full of really inspiring work and exciting equipment.
What did you enjoy outside your studies?
The beach. The beach is what inspired a lot of my artworks in my first year at the university and is ultimately what pushed me to think about sculpture as a medium. This and all the great local galleries with such friendly staff and inspiring spaces.
What do you hope to do when you graduate?
At my graduate show I was awarded the Elysium Gallery Award, in partnership with the university, where I will be given a free studio space for a year, an exhibition at the gallery in 2027 as well as £500 and international opportunities. This is such an exciting prospect, and I cannot wait to get started.
What was your favourite thing about your course?
My favourite thing about the course was its ability to open your eyes to the world. Through intriguing lectures and hands-on workshops with a wide variety of materials you get to experience life in a totally new perspective.
This allowed me to create my latest work, Looking Forward to the Weekend, (2025) a work combining knowledge from university-led trips to Venice and Madrid with my personal life in Swansea.

Would you recommend UWTSD and why?
I would recommend UWTSD as it has had such an impact on me as a person and has helped me form what will be lifelong friendships and meet people who have given me such great opportunities.
