What is your favourite thing about Carmarthen campus?
My favourite thing about the campus is its relaxing vibe. There are always cozy spots to sit down with my university friends, enjoy a coffee, and feel safe and supported.
This welcoming atmosphere creates the perfect environment for connection and collaboration, allowing us to thrive both academically and personally.
Why did you choose UWTSD?
I chose UWTSD primarily because of the lecturers. I found that I could relate to them; they listened, understood my concerns, and made me feel welcome. Despite my initial hesitations about whether I could achieve a degree, they believed in my potential.
I also appreciated the smaller class sizes, the supportive environment at the university, and the inviting spaces that foster collaboration and learning.
What did you enjoy outside your studies?
Outside of my studies, I truly enjoy traveling, meeting new people, and immersing myself in different cultures. Volunteering is also a passion of mine, as it allows me to learn new skills while giving back to the community.
I love being outdoors. Hiking in the mountains and connecting with nature brings me a sense of peace and fulfilment.
Additionally, I practice Buddhist meditation, which helps me in my journey of continuous inner development and self-discovery. These activities not only enrich my life but also contribute to my overall well-being.
What do you hope to do when you graduate?
ÃÜÌÒ´«Ã½ing for a degree in Youth Work has profoundly changed my life and shaped my career path. It has helped me recognise my potential and overcome the doubts I once had about my abilities; achieving a degree that I initially thought was beyond my reach has been empowering.
The broad scope of youth work aligns closely with my values and beliefs, allowing me to engage with topics that genuinely interest me. My trip to Atlanta in May 2024 was particularly impactful, as it allowed me to meet youth workers from around the world and gain insights into the challenges facing young people globally. This experience broadened my perspective and deepened my understanding of the diverse issues that young people encounter in different contexts.
What is your favourite thing about Youth Work and Social Education?
My favourite thing about the Youth Work course is the incredible opportunities for placement. During my first placement, I had the chance to volunteer at Swansea Community Farm, where I secured a job. This hands-on experience not only allowed me to apply what I was learning at university but also deepened my understanding of community engagement and youth development.
My second placement was with the Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs of Wales Police Youth Volunteer Scheme, where I was also offered a job. These experiences have been invaluable in helping me bridge theory and practice.

Would you recommend UWTSD and why?
As I learn at university, I can immediately implement those concepts in real-world settings, which has been essential for my growth and development as a youth worker.
Engaging directly with young people in these environments has allowed me to enhance my skills, build confidence, and foster meaningful relationships, reinforcing my commitment to this rewarding field.
