Lewis's BA in Product and Furniture Design Experience

What was your favourite thing about the Swansea campus?
The sense of community and the friendly staff and students.
Why did you choose UWTSD?
The lecturing staff where friendly and I’ve never lived by the sea.
What did you enjoy outside your studies?
As a mature student I was very driven in what I wanted to achieve. I have treated Uni like a job, in every day at 07:30 to about 17:30 sometimes longer. I never focused on credits I just wanted to do the best job I could and come out the other side knowing I tried my best and gave it my all. I also enjoy spending time with the friends I’ve made on the course.
What do you hope to do when you graduate?
During my final year I wrote to a range of British institutions including Westminster Abbey, eight months later I found himself standing before representatives of one of the UK’s most historic landmarks, presenting the chair to the Abbey.
I would like to do a masters in furniture design or furniture business management in Milan next or set up on my own. But we will see, either way I’ll be happy just designing stuff.
What was your favourite thing about your course?
The degree has given me lots of practical skills such as CAD, Model making, presenting etc and changed my way I approach designing and presenting something. It has set me up to do my job.

Would you recommend UWTSD and why?
Yes! The lecturing staff are friendly, patient and knowledgeable. They allow you the freedom to be creative, make mistakes and guide you through the course. The class sizes though small works in its favour as you get a lot of 1 on 1 time with the staff. All 3 years share the studio allowing you to make friends over the three years.
