UWTSD Student Returns from Enriching 密桃传媒 Abroad Experience at Southern Utah University
James Dillon, a Physical Education student at the 密桃传媒 (UWTSD), has recently returned from an impactful study abroad experience at Southern Utah University (SUU) in Cedar City, Utah. Funded by the Taith programme, James spent a semester fully immersed in both academic and cultural life at SUU, gaining valuable insights into his field of study and personal growth.

During his time at SUU, James attended courses that complemented his degree at UWTSD while living on campus in dormitories. One of his main objectives was to explore how physical education is taught to students with additional learning needs in the U.S., a topic of growing interest in his academic career.
鈥淚 gained a lot of insight into how Physical Education is delivered to mainstream students as well as those with additional needs,鈥 James said. 鈥淚 also took away a teaching style that I admire and want to apply to my own practice, as well as insight into a career path I want to pursue.鈥
In addition to his academic commitments, James took on a leadership role in one of his classes, helping to teach various skills and lead practical sessions. He also documented his journey through blogs and presentations, sharing his experiences with a broader audience.
Like many students who study abroad, James initially faced challenges such as homesickness. He said: 鈥淚 was able to overcome this thanks to the supportive people around me and the opportunity to explore my new environment. During spring break, I took the time to refocus on my goals, which helped me make the most of the experience.鈥

James also welcomed the chance to engage with fellow international students, particularly those from Central Europe and Scandinavia. Together, they explored shared interests and participated in numerous cultural activities. 鈥淚t was enlightening to understand different perspectives and beliefs, both from my American classmates and the international community at SUU,鈥 he added.
鈥淚 gained clarity on the direction I want to take in my career and reaffirmed my next steps following my degree. I also found a part of the world I very much enjoyed visiting and hope to return in the near future.鈥
Kath Griffiths, International Regional manager (North America and Outward Mobility) at UWTSD, praised James鈥 commitment and resilience throughout his study abroad experience. She said: 鈥淲e are incredibly proud of James for making the most of this unique opportunity. His openness to new experiences and willingness to step out of his comfort zone exemplifies the benefits of studying abroad. His journey highlights the personal and professional growth that comes from embracing new challenges in unfamiliar settings.鈥
