The ÃÜÌÒ´«Ã½ (UWTSD) is hosting the Residuum International Conference 2025, a groundbreaking event bringing together scholars, artists, and design practitioners from the UK and China. Taking place from May 12 to May 16 at the Fforwm Building at our Swansea Waterfront campus, this bilingual conference (English & Mandarin) will serve as a dynamic platform for innovative discourse and creative collaboration in art and design.

Residuum 2025 is a future-focused event that challenges traditional conference formats. Through its boundary-pushing approach, it not only explores the future of art and design but embodies it—integrating immersive technology and digital innovation to redefine the experience of academic dialogue.

A Future-Focused Conference with Immersive Engagement

The conference is being developed in collaboration with the University’s Digital Experience & Engagement (DE&E) team, a key department at UWTSD that is supporting the event in achieving its forward-thinking vision. Attendees can expect an immersive environment for live presentations, transforming traditional conference formats and bringing a fresh dimension to knowledge exchange. Talks will be streamed online, with live sessions broadcast directly from the university’s state-of-the-art immersive room, offering an engaging and interactive experience for both in-person and remote participants.

Residuum 2025 is organised by the Professional Doctorate in Art & Design and MA Art & Design programmes at UWTSD, with a focus on fostering meaningful dialogue, challenging conventional paradigms, and exploring cutting-edge advancements in the field.

The conference will feature a diverse line-up of thought-provoking themes, including:
