UWTSD Education Studies Students enjoy a Creative Teaching and Learning Day.
Students from the Education Studies undergraduate courses from The 密桃传媒鈥檚 Carmarthen and Swansea campuses came together recently for a creative teaching and learning day.
It was a day packed with immersive hands-on learning experiences designed to engage all students in a variety of dynamic activities aimed at fostering critical thinking, teamwork, and a love for learning across multiple disciplines.
The morning session was led by Andrea Meyrick, Head of Education and Engagement from Techniquest, where teaching science through the topic of space was explored, and students had the opportunity to create rockets. For Andrea,
鈥淚t was a great opportunity to鈥痙eliver a space themed training session with the education students at UWSTD. It is key to enthuse educators about 鈥疭TEM teaching and learning and how to be creative in its delivery. The students participated in highly engaging space themed activities developed by ESERO showcasing how to be creative in teaching and learning. No need to be stuck 鈥 the resources already developed are easily accessible and excellent. Techniquest sees it as one of its aims to train educators to be science communicators in the most creative of ways.鈥
During the afternoon, Emma Jones and Glyn Jenkins from UWTSD鈥檚 Digital Experience and Engagement team offered firsthand insight into the new immersive teaching and learning room facilities on campus. They demonstrated various immersive contents designed to enrich learning experiences, spanning diverse habitats such as the Amazon Rainforest. Glyn said:
鈥淭he event was highly successful, with excellent collaborations with the students. These Immersive sessions are designed to enhance the students experience and to enjoy the learning process. The feedback from students for this event has been overwhelmingly positive, which highlights our commitment to embracing the future of learning by engaging students through exciting and impactful immersive experiences.鈥
Mark Llewellyn Evans, ABC of Opera held an interactive session with students on cross-curricular methods of teaching through music and opera. Mark鈥檚 enthusiasm for creativity across the curriculum was infectious and engaging for students.
Ross Phillips, UWTSD鈥檚 Education Studies lecturer made use of escape room activities to promote teamwork and problem-solving skills.
Laura Hutchings, Programme Director and event organiser said:
鈥淭he day was a great success and provided us with the opportunity to bring all cohorts together. Sessions allowed students to collaborate together and exchange perspectives of creativity in teaching and learning. The sessions were really interactive and engaging, these allowed students to fully immerse themselves in learning. The student feedback for the day has been really positive, with some commenting that this was their best day in university so far.
