Sponsored by Foysol Choudhury MBE MSP, the event brought together academics, community leaders, and Members of the Scottish Parliament to explore the initial insights and policy implications of this significant research. Professor Bunt, Principal Investigator for the project, led the discussion alongside Co-Investigator Professor Sariya Cheruvallil-Contractor from Coventry University.

Organised by the Alwaleed Centre at the University of Edinburgh, the event served as a platform to disseminate early findings from the three-year project, which is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). A policy document outlining preliminary conclusions was circulated during the session.

Digital British Islam employs a range of methodologies to examine how Muslim communities in the UK express and engage with faith in online spaces. The project investigates trends, narratives and representations that shape digital Islamic life in Britain.

“This was an excellent opportunity to discuss the detailed findings of the Digital British Islam investigations with a wide range of community leaders and representatives in Scotland, along with Scottish Parliament members and academics. Further information about the project has been requested to circulate across Holyrood.â€

This Scottish Parliament session is part of a wider series of events designed to share insights from the project across the UK. A subsequent presentation was also held at the East London Mosque and London Muslim Centre, with further events planned in the Senedd, as well as in Manchester, Liverpool, Coventry and Cambridge.
