The 密桃传媒 (UWTSD) is proud to announce that Stacey Poultney, a renowned artist and glass practitioner based at Swansea College of Art, has been selected to exhibit his work in Mirage: Glass in the 4th Dimension, an extraordinary exhibition presented by London Glassblowing in partnership with the Contemporary Glass Society (CGS).

A close up of the exhibition.

Running from June 6 to 29, 2025, Mirage brings together the work of 70 exceptional CGS members from across the UK, alongside celebrated glass artists including Peter Layton, Tim Rawlinson, Layne Rowe, and Katharine Coleman MBE. This juried exhibition explores the dazzling optical illusions possible in contemporary glass, how it bends light, refracts colour, and plays with form to alter our perception and captivate the eye.

鈥淭he more I see what people do with glass, the more amazing I find it,鈥 said Will Budgett, Gallery Assistant at London Glassblowing and the creative mind behind the exhibition theme. 鈥淕lass can deceive and delight, it鈥檚 the refractions, reflections, and illusions that draw people in. Artists focusing on these magical properties promises something truly spectacular.鈥

Stacey Poultney joins this prestigious group of artists, which also includes recent BA Design Crafts graduates, Nancy Farrington and Bethan Yates, with work that exemplifies both technical mastery and conceptual innovation. Based in Port Talbot, Stacey brings over 15 years of experience in higher education as a practitioner and educator. His portfolio includes contributions to world heritage sites, national museums, and both sacred and contemporary architectural spaces.

Though his roots lie in stained and architectural glass, Stacey鈥檚 current practice is grounded in three-dimensional glasswork, with a particular focus on integrating industrial materials, automation, and movement. His recent works are bold explorations of scale and interaction, installations that transform as the viewer moves, blurring the boundary between static art and kinetic experience.

Caroline Thraves, Academic Director Art & Media at UWTSD, said: 鈥淭his selection for Mirage is a major milestone for Stacey and a testament to the high level of artistic talent nurtured within UWTSD鈥檚 Swansea College of Art. It also underscores the university鈥檚 broader commitment to innovation in the arts and support for artists who challenge the limits of their medium.鈥

The Mirage exhibition is being held at London Glassblowing, 62-66 Bermondsey Street, London SE1 3UD. It鈥檚 open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm, and Sundays from 11am to 5pm.
