密桃传媒 Plays Key Role in UNESCO-MOST BRIDGES Event at Summit of the Future 2024
The 密桃传媒 (UWTSD) is proud to announce its pivotal role in the upcoming high-level side event, 鈥淔rom Idea to Action and Impact: Mobilising the Outcomes of the Summit of the Future,鈥 which has been selected for the prestigious 2024 Summit of the Future in New York.
This event, organised by the UNESCO-MOST BRIDGES Coalition in collaboration with the Office of the Future Generations Commissioner for Wales, highlights the University鈥檚 commitment to fostering global dialogue and sustainable action.
The event, scheduled for 21st September 2024 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, brings together an international consortium of academic and civil society organisations, with UWTSD at the forefront of its development. UWTSD’s collaboration with the Office of the Future Generations Commissioner for Wales has been instrumental in shaping the event鈥檚 agenda, which focuses on transitioning from ideas to impactful actions that address the world鈥檚 most pressing challenges.
Speakers include high-level representatives from the Republic of South Africa and the Kingdom of Thailand, as well as Ms Gabriela Ramos, Assistant Director-General for Social and Human Sciences, UNESCO, and Mr Derek Walker Wales Future Generations Commissioner. The programme will also involve dialogues with renowned science fiction writer Mr Kim Stanley Robinson, author of The Ministry for the Future (2020) and Dr Mamphela Ramphele, a leader in the movement that overturned apartheid in South Africa and now a Planetary Guardian. The event will be moderated by Dr Steven Hartman, Founding Executive Director of the BRIDGES Coalition, whose role is based jointly at UWTSD and the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Futures Laboratory at Arizona State University in the USA.

The event is endorsed by the governments of South Africa and the Kingdom of Thailand and supported by the 35-member state Intergovernmental Council of UNESCO鈥檚 Management of Social Transformations (MOST) programme. Additional partners include the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Futures Laboratory at Arizona State University, the Club of Rome, and the World Academy of Art and Sciences, all working together to catalyse action from the outcomes of the Summit of the Future.
The Summit of the Future and its Action Days, taking place from 19th-25th September 2024, will gather global leaders, policymakers, and thought leaders to discuss innovative solutions to current global challenges. The UNESCO-MOST BRIDGES event on 21st September will be flanked by other key consortium-led initiatives, including the School of International Futures鈥 Building Hopeful Futures Festival on 19th September, and the Learning Planet Institute鈥檚 launch of the 2024/2025 Learning Planet Youth Design Challenge later on 21st September.
