Calon Bailey, a BA Acting student from the ���Ҵ�ý (UWTSD) has recently completed a semester abroad in California State University, Fullerton. Funded by the Taith scholarship, Calon’s time overseas offered him a unique opportunity to study, develop skills, and gain fresh perspectives in an international setting.

During his time at Fullerton, Calon immersed himself in a dynamic academic environment. He said: 

“The area I studied at had people from all walks of life, all driven to achieve their goals. It was inspiring to be surrounded by such determination, which motivated me to push myself further,” 

Through his experience, Calon discovered new skills and adapted to unfamiliar new working environments. This adaptability has equipped him with a toolkit of capabilities, preparing him to excel in future endeavours.

Reflecting on his time abroad, Calon said:

“This experience doesn’t just help you develop new skills, it also gives you the time to find out your own identity, your core values and most importantly what you want to do with the time you have when you return home.” 

He also highlighted the unique perspectives gained from working alongside peers from diverse educational backgrounds. 

“I gave what I learnt and am taking with me more knowledge and understanding from a different angle of things in every subject I’ve wanted to learn, and also the subjects that I have been studying for the last 6 years.”

Calon encourages other UWTSD students to consider international opportunities.

“It’s more than a learning experience—it’s a chance to grow, explore, and prepare for the future. Although my time in California was short, it gave me the confidence and motivation to build something meaningful when I returned home.”

Calon’s semester abroad has shaped his aspirations, providing him with the tools and determination to explore new career and academic pathways. 

“I believe I have a lot more opportunities than I take for granted, and hope to finally make use of the help I’ve offered others, in order to start the foundation of my own network.”
