Project outline
Rescape Innovation Ltd is pioneering the use of virtual reality (VR) in healthcare through its DR.VRâ„¢ platform, which helps reduce pain, anxiety, and stress for patients and frontline staff. Used across the NHS, care homes, and hospices, DR.VRâ„¢ has also supported emotional training in emergency services.
With the onset of COVID-19, the need for robust infection control protocols became critical for the safe deployment of VR in clinical settings. Rescape partnered with ATiC and Cardiff University’s CIA to address immediate safety concerns and explore long-term research, development, and innovation (RD&I) opportunities for DR.VR™.

ATiC helped Rescape understand how staff and patients interact with the VR system and identified ways to improve its safety, usability, and deployment in healthcare environments.
´¡°Õ¾±°ä’s&²Ô²ú²õ±è;±ð³æ±è±ð°ù³Ù¾±²õ±ð:
- Collaborated with infection control specialists and NHS staff to evaluate how DR.VRâ„¢ is used across clinical settings.
- Created a simulated care environment in ATiC’s UX Lab to overcome access limitations during the pandemic.
- Conducted a Usability Engineering Evaluation (BS EN 62366) using behavioural observation tools, including remote eye tracking, to assess system safety and user interaction.
Impact:
This collaboration led to the development of new training materials and user guidelines, supporting the safe and effective use of VR in healthcare—during and beyond the pandemic.
