Project outline

eHealth Digital Media Ltd partnered with ATiC to create a powerful series of films that explore the lived experiences of people with dementia. These films, developed over the course of a year, aim to support patients, families, carers, and healthcare professionals through education, empathy, and shared understanding.

The resulting 10-film series is now available on eHealth’s established PocketMedic platform, which delivers clinician-prescribed health information to support self-management of chronic conditions such as diabetes, COPD, depression, and anxiety.

ATiC’s involvement was instrumental in securing funding from Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board to produce the first series, which was showcased at the International Foundation for Integrated Care Conference in May 2021. A second series—focusing on the impact of dementia within Wales’ BAME communities—was later funded.

  • Applied advanced UX and behavioural research tools, including wearable eye tracking, facial expression recognition, and observational analysis of two participants in their 80s, both living with dementia.
  • Used FaceReader software to evaluate the emotional impact of the films across diverse audiences and stakeholder groups.

Impact:

This collaboration demonstrated how research-informed storytelling can improve communication, foster empathy, and support more inclusive, compassionate care for people living with dementia.
