Project outline
Gwylan UK developed Sleeping Lions, a classroom-based stress and anxiety management system designed to help children regulate their emotions and improve their mental wellbeing. The system uses a tablet-based app, Bluetooth headphones, and a wrist-worn heart rate monitor to guide children through calming exercises and mindfulness techniques.
When a child becomes upset or overwhelmed, Sleeping Lions helps them reduce their breathing rate and regain control—without needing to leave the classroom. This not only supports emotional resilience but also reduces missed learning time and enables schools to better support pupils’ mental health.

- Conducted in-school studies to evaluate the app’s impact on heart rate and emotional regulation.
- Used biometric tracking, facial expression analysis, and other behavioural research tools to assess the system’s effectiveness and refine the user experience
Impact:
The findings provided strong evidence of the product’s benefits and informed improvements to the final version—helping bring a valuable emotional wellbeing tool to schools and educators.
