UWTSD police apprentice, Jack Dixon will be among the squad representing Wales at the  to be held in Birmingham, Alabama, USA between 27 June and 6 July 2025.

Jack, is a member of the South Wales Police Football Club who will be the only Welsh force competing in the Open Age and Veterans (over 35) football competition. 

The  are an Olympic-style competition with thousands of athletes representing First Responders from different countries across the world. 

Jack, who lives in Swansea, will graduate from the Professional Policing Practice degree apprenticeship this year. He said: “Whilst starting my career with South Wales Police, I have been involved within the football section as I have been passionate about the sport my entire life. Last year, I was fortunate enough to be part of the squad playing in Salou, Spain to compete in the ESFL European Championships in which we reached the quarter finals of the competition. 

This year, I will be playing for the South Wales Police Football Team in Alabama, USA to compete in the World Police & Fire Games 2025. The games will take place between the 27th of June to the 7th of July, consisting of 60+ sports and 30+ venues across Alabama. I will be participating in the football tournament whereby South Wales Police will be competing against teams from across the globe. Our opening fixture is against Toronto, Canada Police Service on Saturday the 28th of June.

Bronwen Williams, Academic Director of the UWTSD Swansea School of Law said: “We are delighted to support Jack to enable him to compete in these games with his fellow police officers. This is an amazing achievement to be picked to represent SWP and Wales in these games. Jack is also graduating from UWTSD in Professional Police Practice when he returns from the games in July. To balance his policing career, with his academic studies and to play sport at this level is testament to Jack’s dedication commitment and professionalism to his role as a police officer. We wish him all the best of luck in the competition”.

Jack’s career within the police and at the University started three years ago when he I joined South Wales Police as a Police Constable.  He says:  “A big factor in making my decision to start my career in policing was the possibility of achieving a degree in Professional Policing Practise with the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. 

“Three years ago, I was nervous at the thought of balancing my career and studying, however with allocated learning days and support from the University it has made the experience totally worth it. Any difficulties or support I required was always one phone call, email or face to face meeting away. Ҵýing Professional Policing helped me seamlessly apply what I had experienced and learnt whilst at the start of my career to my academic assignments and workbooks”.&Բ;
