Taking the next steps with MA Education (Wales)
After teaching in a Welsh-medium primary school for three years following the completion of her undergraduate degree at ÃÜÌÒ´«Ã½, Megan Lewis decided it was time to build on her experience and take the next step in her professional journey. Through the MA Education (Wales) programme, she’s been able to grow her knowledge, connect with practitioners across the country, and apply her learning directly to the classroom - all while studying through the medium of Welsh.

Here, Megan talks about how the course supported her next steps:
After completing my undergraduate degree in Primary Education with QTS at UWTSD in 2021, I spent three years teaching in a Welsh-medium primary school. During that time, I became increasingly interested in deepening my professional knowledge – not just for myself, but for the benefit of my learners.
I heard about the exciting opportunity to undertake the MA Education (Wales), developed in collaboration with Welsh universities and the Welsh Government. The course immediately appealed to me, as it is designed for professionals like myself who are looking to develop further. One of the most valuable aspects has been engaging in professional discussions with individuals undertaking the same course at other universities across Wales.
Returning to UWTSD for my master’s felt like a natural step. From my undergraduate experience at the Carmarthen campus, I already knew the high level of support available. This time, I joined the Swansea campus, giving me access to new facilities while still benefiting from a strong Welsh-language learning environment – something that is particularly important to me. It was also lovely to see familiar faces from my previous course, many of whom are now supporting students on this programme.
Unlike other master’s programmes, this one is structured to allow me to continue working full-time whilst gaining the qualification. The combination of face-to-face and online sessions provides access to lectures, resources and support that fit around my busy teaching schedule.
A particular highlight for me has been the variety of available modules. I’ve been able to tailor the course to my interests. Modules focusing on emotional wellbeing have broadened my understanding of practical strategies to support learners in the classroom, while those centred on professional leadership have equipped me with the knowledge and skills needed to take the next steps in my career.
If you’re considering the course, my advice would be to go for it! There is ample support from lecturers – in both Welsh and English. Everyone is so willing to help and support you on your journey and want to see you succeed. It’s been an incredibly rewarding experience so far, and I’m excited to see where it leads me next.
