We are interested in applicants who want to contribute to the future of the rural economy. Previous study of business is not required and we welcome applicants from a wide range of backgrounds.

Our standard offer for the BA is 88 UCAS tariff points. A-Level and Edexcel awards, as well as a range of other certificates at this level from UK, EU and International bodies, are accepted.

A number of other equivalent qualifications are also accepted in contribution to your UCAS tariff points and the admissions panel will consider each application on an individual basis. Please note also that our offers are not based solely on your academic achievements; we take into account your full range of skills, experience and attainments when considering your application.

The UCAS tariff score is applicable to you if you have recently studied a qualification that has a UCAS tariff equivalence. UCAS provides a  for you to work out what your qualification is worth within the UCAS tariff. &²Ô²ú²õ±è;

GCSE grade A*-C (grade 9-4 in England) in English and Mathematics is also required. &²Ô²ú²õ±è;

Alternative entry routes  

If this course interests you, but you don’t have the entry requirements to join our bachelor’s degree you could consider:  

• ‘with Foundation Year’. This route is designed to give you extra support as it provides you with an additional year (full-time) of supported study. â¶Ä¯&²Ô²ú²õ±è;

Once you successfully complete your Foundation Year studies, you will automatically advance onto the main degree. â¶Ä¯&²Ô²ú²õ±è;

• Certificate in Higher Education (CertHE). This is a one-year course and is equivalent to the first year of the three year, full-time bachelor’s degree. &²Ô²ú²õ±è;

 Once you have successfully completed your CertHE studies, you will be eligible to progress for the remaining two years of the bachelor’s degree. &²Ô²ú²õ±è;

These are ideal routes if you are returning to study after a gap, or if you have not previously studied this subject, or if you did not achieve the grades you need for a place on this degree. â¶Ä¯&²Ô²ú²õ±è;

English language requirements  

If English is not your first language or you have not previously studied in English, our usual requirement is the equivalent of an International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic Test) score of 6.0, with not less than 5.5 in each of the sub-tests. We also accept other English language tests. &²Ô²ú²õ±è;

Visa and funding requirements  

If you are not from the UK and you do not already have residency here, you may need to apply for a visa. &²Ô²ú²õ±è;

For courses of more than six months’ duration you will require a Student visa. &²Ô²ú²õ±è;

International students who require a Student visa should apply for our full-time courses as these qualify for Student visa sponsorship. â¶Ä¯&²Ô²ú²õ±è;

Please note students receiving US Federal Aid are only able to apply for in-person, on-campus programmes which will have no elements of online study. &²Ô²ú²õ±è;

The Rural Enterprise Management programme is assessed by a combination of innovative and more traditional methods which are designed to develop students’ understanding, problem-solving and creative thinking during their three years of study.

Assessments are closely linked to learning activities, where students build understanding and skills in weekly sessions, and are able to learn from formative assessment throughout the programme. 

It is possible to complete this programme of study without any additional costs.

Students may wish to purchase materials for modules, such as major project but this is not a requirement and will have no bearing on the final grade.

Students may also wish to attend optional overnight field visits in the UK or overseas at some point during their programme of study, with an estimate of £600-£1000. Again, attendance at additional overnight field-visits are not compulsory and have no bearing on the final grade. Costs for field-visits which are part of modules are included in course fees.

Some modules in this course are available to study through the medium of Welsh either fully or partially. In all cases students will be able to submit written assessments through the medium of Welsh.  

If you choose to study your course either fully or partially through the medium of Welsh, you may be eligible to apply for scholarships and bursaries to support you with your studies. 

We are continuously reviewing our Welsh medium provision, the precise availability of modules will vary depending on staff availability and research interests, new topics of study, timetabling and student demand. Where your course offers modules available through the medium of Welsh this may vary from year to year, and will be subject to minimum student numbers being achieved. This means the availability of specific Welsh medium modules cannot be guaranteed.

BA Rural Enterprise Management students have the opportunity to apply for our study abroad programme. If accepted, students will study overseas in one of our US or Canadian partner institutions for the second semester of level 5.

A report by the World Economic Forum notes that by 2020 35% of the skills that are considered important for today’s employment will have changed; according to the report, the top three skills required by the workforce will be complex problem solving, critical thinking and creativity. By studying Rural Enterprise Management with us you will gain the skills and abilities to creatively solve the problems of the future by engaging in problem-based learning which aims to transform your thinking about business and management. Within the programme you will be working on live projects for a range of organisations and will also undertake a compulsory internship within the public, private or voluntary sector.

Our graduates progress to a range of areas within the public, private and voluntary sectors in areas such as sustainability leadership, financial management, marketing, human resources management, project management, community development and regeneration.

An emphasis on entrepreneurship and innovation within the programme has also meant that a number of our recent graduates have left to successfully set up their own enterprises and Carmarthen Business School is proactive in signposting students to internal and external support for business development.

Several of our graduates also choose to progress to further study at Masters and Doctoral level either within UWTSD or at other universities.  At Carmarthen Business School we offer a range of postgraduate programmes and have a number of active Doctoral students.
